National Rehabilitation Awareness Week

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0 | September 22nd, 2022

National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is a week that highlights the importance of physical, occupational, and speech therapies. These therapies are essential to getting you up and running again after illness, injury, or surgery. In an effort to demonstrate the effectiveness of these therapies, Home Health Professionals wants to give you a quick tour of each of these therapists’ areas of expertise.

Occupational Therapists

Occupational therapists work with those whose daily functions are impaired by injuries, aging, illness, and developmental disability. The goal of occupational therapy is to help you maintain your independence, get you back to safely completing daily activities, and help prevent further disability. Occupational therapists use goal-directed activities to help patients achieve goals to get them back on track for success.

Physical Therapists

A physical therapist’s main goal is to help reduce pain and improve strength, mobility, range of motion and flexibility. A physical therapist’s focus is to strengthen the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems in order to help individuals move and function more safely and smoothly in daily life.

Speech Therapists

Speech therapists work with patients who have difficulty with both written and verbal communication, as well as difficulty eating and swallowing. Such issues can be caused by physical and/or neurological disorders or conditions, or because of illness or injury.  Speech therapy exercises focus on breath work and oral strengthening and can even be fun with word games and simply smiling.

I’m sure you get the message by now; therapists are ESSENTIAL to getting patients back to any semblance of normalcy. BUT we want to take that information to the bank with some super helpful statistics from the performance of some of HHP’s very own therapists. If you’re a numbers person, hang on to your seat! According to Medicare.gov, on average, Home Health Professionals exceeds the state of Texas’ average for improvement. Over 90% of our patients saw improvement in walking or moving around, getting in and out of bed, and even bathing.

Our programs are customized for each patient’s individualized needs and overall success. We teach you how to lead a healthy lifestyle even after your therapy is complete. Therapy can assist after several procedures, injuries and conditions, including:

Joint Replacement

Surgeries

Arthritis

Fractures

If you or someone you know is recovering from any of these procedures or ailments, ask your doctor about your next steps for recovery.
